Evaluation question

Can engineers and stakeholders see whether the system is healthy and whether the expected business outcome is being delivered?

Logs alone do not answer that question. Useful observability connects technical state to the consequence experienced by the consumer.

What to examine

  • Workload success, failure, and duration
  • Data freshness and completeness
  • Rejected or delayed inputs
  • Correlation across processing stages
  • Actionable alerts
  • A minimal operational view
  • Visibility of the business reporting deadline

The retail sales case must make it possible to answer whether processing completed, whether the data is complete, what failed, what requires action, and whether the reporting deadline remains achievable.
